Optifast tasting #1
I tasted the optifast chocolate peanut butter bar today. It was actually very tasty! No funky aftertaste. Nice texture and satisfying crunch. I could definitely detect the salt and that gave it a salty sweet vibe which I like. Most surprising is that even though it was only 1.59 ounces, I feel full. Not going to drink for a half hour and see how long it keeps the hunger I was just feeling at bay. I think that this is a really good start!
One down, two bars and two soups to go! I wont be trying the shakes at this point... Just can't stand them. I reserve the right to change my mind though if the rest of the tastings go well!
All in all, if this bar is the first indication, I am very excited to use Optifast for two weeks to kick start my lap band weight loss again. We will see how the rest of the stuff tastes and more importantly - get my headaches squared away with the new neurologist next week.
Wish me luck!

Food inconsistency when dining out, which turned into a lap band thing...
While reading through GreenYogurt's archives about her experiences trying new foods and some of her commenters talking about inconsistent foods when dining out, it inspired this rant. Yay!
I hate incorrectly prepared food. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves. Of course it doesn’t help that both my husband and I like to cook (he’s a professional for heavens sake) so nine times out of ten when we go out to eat we are like “Damn we could have made this better ourselves and saved the money.” He and I both agree that the most important thing for a restaurant or any food service establishment to have is *consistency*.
I probably shouldn’t admit this in public, but I’ve sent food back because it wasn’t prepared the same way I had it “last” time I was here. At TooJay's I love to order their brisket dinner plate. The first time I went there and ordered it, it was thinly sliced and heavenly. As it was for the next few times we went. Around the third or fourth time, it came out and it was very thickly sliced, and in my world (Lap Band World) it was indigestible. So I called the waiter over and asked him if they changed it, he said no, I said well it seems very different, they usually slice it thinner and while I hate to say this, I have to send it back. I did, and the manager came over later and asked what was wrong. I told him. He went back to the kitchen and realized that the first few times, I was getting the brisket sliced "sandwich style" which was thinner, and this chef in the back was now slicing it regular and that was the problem, so he told me from now on when I come in to order it, to just order it sliced "sandwich style". Glad that worked out, because their brisket rocks!
Also, I like my eggs over medium. There’s a reason for that; A) I like my yolk runny. B) I am completely GROSSED OUT if the white is runny at all and C) If it comes out over cooked, or it is over cooked because they left it under the heat lamp too long, I’ll send it back. See (A). D) I can only eat the yolk of an egg most of the time, so it's that much more important to me that it's cooked correctly. I explain that more down yonder.
Due to my lap band, I have a lot of issues with texture and consistency of food. For example, I usually can't eat the whites of the eggs even if they are cooked perfectly, they get stuck. If it’s something like that, it's my problem and it happens that I can’t consume a certain meal because of my body, but it is good and prepared properly, I’ll have the meal packed up and I’ll take it home where I will try to eat it again, or I’ll just throw it away. Sometimes I can hardly even touch a meal, and inevitably I’ll have to excuse myself, and go “PB”* so I am not in pain. I’ll return to the table and the wait staff will come over and ask if everything is ok with the food. I’ll say yes and just have them box it up.
You would think after having this band for so long, I’d have I figured out by now. But that is NOT the case. Well not really. It seems I’ve outsmarted the band. You see, I’ve gained a significant amount of weight back. I’ve got to figure out how to reverse this y’all. I’m working on it.

**Productive Burping – It’s kind of like throwing up, in that food is coming up like when you throw up, but it feels differently. I don’t really know how to explain it. You can probably google for an explanation far better than mine. I did that and this girl seems to explain it better than I can. Basically something gets stuck and it has to come up.

Christmas Eve Bummer
I was enjoying the 'W' family Christmas but really missing my husband. He made it just as we were sitting down to eat. You can bet that turned this frown upside down!

The Final Curtain
Every weekday at a food related message board I am a long time member of, a random question is posed. This week one of the questions was "How do you picture your funeral?"
This was my answer. Hopefully it will be a long long time from now...
I want to be buried in a beautiful cemetery that allows upright headstones (Those aren't very common in Florida for some reason). I have one in mind. My husband's mother is buried there. It's a peaceful beautiful place. I'd like to have a short wake, and a quick service followed by a party for my family to celebrate my life, it'd be really cool if they had lots of my favorite foods... I'd like a pretty headstone too... My husband's mothers is so beautiful... Carved granite with polished and raw edges.

Sticks and stones break my bones, and I'm trying not to let you hurt me...
I'm having a hard time putting on my happy face today. I just can't handle two things in life...
1 - When someone calls you a liar when you are not. and
2 - When someone says that you were impolite, rude, insensitive, unhelpful,(insert other negative adjective here) when not only were you not, but you bent over backwards and went above and beyond for them
This is an incredibly hurtful thing to do to me. Someone always told me when people lash out, they sometimes have other things going on in their lives, and in this case they do, serious things... so I'm trying to be understanding. But really... you have to attack my character and my integrity.
That hurts.
It hurts to the very core.

30 Days of Truth - Day 5
Day 5 - Something you hope to do in your life.
Well geez. I guess most people who know me can figure this one out.
I want to be a mom.
Unfortunately, God doesn't seem to think I'm ready for that yet.
I've never been sure if I'm ready for it, I just know instinctively that I want it. I want to be a mom so much it hurts.
It hurts so much I find myself being selfish and jealous of things that are absolutely ridiculous...
I guess I need to work on #4 up there a little more and add forgiving myself for not being able to reproduce to that list...

Another Day
It's Tuesday. That's what the calendar tells me anyway.
I thought I would feel bad today, but I don't. J and I had a good talk last night, and we have plans for more talking. Just like anything else, this is only a temporary setback.
I really, really, REALLY wish my mom was home. She's out of town and it sucks. J mentioned that he wished she was home last night too and I lost it.
What is it about moms that make you just burst into tears. It happens to all three of us girls. We can be just holding it together by a thread, but we ARE holding it together, and someone mentions mom, or she calls, or we see her... and the dam is broken.
It's even more heartening knowing that he wants her here too.
I haven't started my actual to-do list for the day, but I did read through all of my work/severance paperwork and I have a lot of questions to ask HR.
My main goal today is to find some money somewhere so I'm not afraid to go grocery shopping.

After a long time
I've decided to come back to blogger, although I've never really posted anything here, it has been a placeholder of sorts. I'm going to finally consolidate everything here. You know, I will have a lot of time on my hands I guess.
I was laid off last Tuesday 7/21/09. My dad's birthday.
This is going to be a long row to hoe.
